Cairo from 5 to 7

This is a short documentary film, directed by Ahmed M. Abo el-Fadl, at the High Cinema Institute in Egypt in 2013. Abo el-Fadl states that the film captures the city “in its most tranquil and calm state.” However, what struck me while watching the film is not the tranquility of Cairo at night, but the different ecology of sounds that constitutes the urban fabric of Cairo, both in comparison to Cairo’s morning soundscape and in comparison to other urban and rural acoustic ecologies.
